    Starting an Online Business?

    web entrepreneurship

Internet has revolutionized the way we live our lives and enabled an environment in which anyone can go up against the big companies.  But how easy can it be to start an online business?

Let´s consider some more about this issue.

First, we must identify the most common motivations that contribute to starting this kind of business.

    • Improve finances

    • Take own decisions

    • Not depend on a boss

    • Flexible hours

    • Work from home

It is possible to bring all these motivations together and start a business that can result in a lot of profit.  According to GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Μonitor), there is a global (it varies according to the region) 72.5% of success in this kind of entrepreneurship.  But there is a situation.

There is a wrong idea of what it means to be an entrepreneur.  Among myths and misunderstandings, it is: “I want to start an online business because I have been told that it is very easy and it takes no effort at all” or “I´ve heard that I have to invest very little money and do nothing or hardly anything”.

Taking those ideas as ¨correct¨ is the main reason why most entrepreneurs give up less than one year after they have started their own business.

The important thing to know is: in order to start an online business that can make one, two, three or ten thousand dollars a month, having a good motivation is not enough.  An entrepreneur must have discipline, must be willing to make a big effort, spend some free-time hours in the business, learn continuously, innovate, be creative, search for alternatives even with few resources and, for most cases, must be willing to invest.

Did you know? The word business: in old English bisignes (Northumbrian) "care, anxiety, occupation," from bisig "careful, anxious, busy, occupied, diligent" . Middle English sense of "state of being much occupied or engaged" (mid-14c.) is obsolete, replaced by busyness. In 1849, was the first attested in Thoreau, from busy (adj.) + -ness. A modern formation made necessary after business evolved away from busy.

Is it worth it all the effort?  It is up to you.  But be sure of one thing, for all kinds of business: Tuugo will be there to announce it!

    New Year: origin and dates

New Year is a special event that we always celebrate. But what is its history? Is it only celebrated in January?

Celebrating the end of an era and wishing welfare for the new one are part of a tradition that is present in almost every culture.

On records, the first New Year celebration happened in a civilization in Babylon around the year 2000 b.C. They celebrated the end of winter and the beginning of spring, that meant for them a season full of challenges because in this season they planted their crops for the rest of the year. It was celebrated in the first days of March, as they followed a seasonal calendar.

    Why January 1st?

January 1st started in the year 47 b.C. when the Roman Senate declared that the new year would start on that day. This was made in order to correct the calendar, that was not matching the sun calendar anymore (Julian calendar)

Also, it had a change in meaning because before the era of the Roman Empire, civilizations based their dates on agriculture and seasons. However, in the Roman Empire, January 1st meant the day the elected consuls would take on their positions, that was when this date started having a civil meaning.

    Different dates

Along with different cultures and beliefs there are also different calendars and different dates to celebrate New Year.

    • Enkutatash is the new year celebration of the Ethiopian calendar, on September 11th.

    South America

    • We Tripantu is the new Mapuche year celebration and it takes place on June 24th.

    • Willka Kuti is the new year celebration for the Aymara culture. It takes place on June 21st, with the solstice season, with the arrival of winter. Also called Aymara New Year.

    North America

    • Yancuīc Xihuitl is celebrated on March 11th by mexica.

    Middle East

    • Rosh Hashanah is the New Year celebration for the jewish, it usually takes place on September.

    • The muslim New Year is celebrated on the 1st day of muharram, which corresponding date in the gregorian calendar changes every year as the muslim calendar is lunar.

    Eastern Asia

    • Losar, Tibet New Year celebration, happens around January and beginning of February.

    Southeast Asia

    • In Thailand, Camboya, Birmania and Bengala, the new year is celebrated April 14th.

    • Tết, Vietnam New Year celebration is celebrated in the same day as the Chinese New Year.

    South Asia

    • Hindu New Year is celebrated two days before Diwali festival, mid-November.

    • Ugadi, Telugu New Year celebration happens around March and April.

    • Nouruz, iranian New Year celebration, takes place in the equinox of spring (around March 21st)

    • Naw-Rúz, Fe bahá'í happens in the equinox of spring ( March 21st

    • Among the Amor Rosacruces, New Year is celebrated someday between March 21st and March 23th, the closest possible to SPRING equinox.

    • Vendimario first, New Year celebration according to the French Republican Calendar, is September 22nd.

    • Samhain, New Year celebration for the Neopagans Celtics, is around November 1st..

    • As some members of the Orthodox Church follow the Julian Calendar, they celebrate New Year on January 14th.

It is very interesting that regardless of culture, generations and time, there has always been and will be the desire to successfully face the forth coming new challenges.

Tuugo joins this celebration wishing you a happy and prosper New Year!

Interesting facts: In Scotland, it is good luck if the first person (on the first day of the year) who enters your home is a handsome and dark tall man.
