Orthoforge, Inc. is a pre-clinical development stage medical device company that is using its patented ultrasound-based technology to measure the healing stage of bone and soft tissues following an injury.
Ultrasound is a proven technology that has been used in medicine for decades. Using ultrasound waves to monitor healing progress does not expose patients or healthcare providers to radiation (X-Ray, CT Scan and MRI all expose individuals to radiation). Analyzing ultrasound signals provides a quantifiable reading that doctors can use to assess healing progress in bone and soft tissue injuries. Our first application of this technology will be to identify and analyze the healing of long bone fractures (Thigh, shin, fingers, arm, etc.). Future applications to analyze other bone and soft tissue injuries are in development. Bone and soft tissues have unique properties that can be differentiated by sound waves.
Orthoforge uses ultrasound energy to measure and quantify the healing state of bone as it progresses from fracture to soft callus to remodeled bone without exposure to radiation. Our Device will minimize/remove ambiguity of fracture healing assessment by scientifically quantifying the stage of bone healing at a fracture site. Instead of a subjective analysis of the fracture area, we will provide quantitative information to the clinician that clearly indicates the stage of healing following fracture. This will help the clinician make an objective, rather than a subjective assessment of the healing progress.
This information can also be received as real-time measurement of bone healing. Our technology can reduce insurance costs and improve outcomes. X-Rays can cost insurance companies up to $71 Billion annually and fracture patients require multiple office and hospital visits The use of the Orthoforge technology can reduce the cost burden by reducing the number of subsequent hospital and office visits as well as unnecessary X-Rays and CT Scans. In addition to measuring healing following a fracture, Orthoforge can also help diagnose and assess malunions. Malunions lead to prolonged inflammation and a softer fibrous callous. The Orthoforge technology can detect this inflammation as well as the softer scar tissue and alert the clinician to address the issue before possible further complications.
